PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER REPORT
Public Information Officer (PIO) Cattern reminded everyone that the Chino Hills Community Foundation’s 5th Annual Spring Home Tour will be held on Sunday, April 19. She noted that the tour will include three stylish residences in Chino Hills and that tickets are $45 per person. Tickets are available for purchase at Chino Hills City Hall, Recreation Division and at the Chino Hills Community Center. For more information visit www.chinohills.org/HomeTour. PIO Cattern announced that the Chino Hills ARTS Committee will present Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple in May at the Chino Hills Community Center. For more information visit www.chinohills.org/chartsevents.
PIO Cattern reported that the Hiking in the Hills program will run from May 16 through June 27. She noted that hikers will meet at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday mornings and hike an average two to four miles per session during the six-week program. For more information and to register for the program visit www.chinohills.org/Recreation or call (909) 364-2700.
PIO Cattern encouraged everyone to continue to conserve water and to stay tuned for future restrictions, including mandatory two-days per week watering. She reported that water conservation updates and restrictions will be available online as regulations are voted on at the State level and the City works to update the water conservation ordinance. Southern California Association of Governments
– Council Member Marquez reported that the Southern California Association of Governments will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary. He encouraged everyone to attend the Regional Conference and General Assembly May 7 through 8. He noted that a Caltrans grant cycle will be up coming.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Rogers:
Council Member Rogers requested an update on the Peyton Drive Widening Project. City Engineer Nix noted that a temporary bypass road has been constructed for occasions when the contractor will need to shut down Eucalyptus Road or Peyton Drive. He noted that this bypass is intended to be used only during the hours of 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Upon questioning, PIO Cattern noted that concerned residents should call the Water Conservation Hotline at (909) 364-2850 to report water issues or when increased water education is required. Public Works Director noted that ten projects have been approved through for Phase II of the Turf Replacement Rebate Program and a Phase III application is in the works to take full advantage of the available funds. Council Member Rogers encouraged everyone to attend the 5th Annual Home Tour and to visit www.chinohills.org/HomeTour for more information and to purchase tickets. Marquez:
Council Member Marquez thanked the Public Works Department and the Engineering Department for their quick response to issues within the City and for keeping the public notified of events and incidents. Upon questioning, City Engineer Nix noted that infrastructure for recycled water service for an individual facility is not cost effective. Council Member Marquez noted that he attended the City County Conference, Donate Life Flag Raising, Salute to Safety Luncheon, and Easter Eggcitement events.
Bennett:
Vice Mayor Bennett noted that trees have been removed in the medians of Chino Hills Parkway. He confirmed that the relocated fence at the Equestrian Center on Peyton Drive is the permanent location for that fencing. Vice Mayor Bennett encouraged everyone to purchase tickets for the 5th Annual Home Tour. He reported that the Volunteer Recognition Dinner will be held on April 16th and thanked the City’s many volunteers for all their work. Vice Mayor Bennett congratulated the Ayala High School Vocal Ensemble for their first place wins over the Spring Break holiday and the Chino Hills High School Drumline for being named the 2015 WGI Scholastic World Champions.
Graham:
Council member Graham asked for an update regarding water conservation in the City. Public Works Director Majaj noted that the City is working to meet the 25 percent water reduction requirements set by the State of California and will be revising the City’s Water Conservation Ordinance and requesting the declaration of a Stage III Water Alert. He noted that the City will be pursuing grants, educational opportunities, and working with businesses to institute water conservation measures.
Moran:
Mayor Moran noted that water conservation and turf replacement rebates are available for residential communities and encouraged communities to investigate these rebates. She asked that outreach to businesses be done to further encourage water conservation efforts. She congratulated Chino Hills High School junior Lonzo Ball for being named the 2015 Daily Bulletin Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

PIO Cattern encouraged everyone to continue to conserve water and to stay tuned for future restrictions, including mandatory two-days per week watering. She reported that water conservation updates and restrictions will be available online as regulations are voted on at the State level and the City works to update the water conservation ordinance. Southern California Association of Governments
– Council Member Marquez reported that the Southern California Association of Governments will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary. He encouraged everyone to attend the Regional Conference and General Assembly May 7 through 8. He noted that a Caltrans grant cycle will be up coming.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Rogers:
Council Member Rogers requested an update on the Peyton Drive Widening Project. City Engineer Nix noted that a temporary bypass road has been constructed for occasions when the contractor will need to shut down Eucalyptus Road or Peyton Drive. He noted that this bypass is intended to be used only during the hours of 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Upon questioning, PIO Cattern noted that concerned residents should call the Water Conservation Hotline at (909) 364-2850 to report water issues or when increased water education is required. Public Works Director noted that ten projects have been approved through for Phase II of the Turf Replacement Rebate Program and a Phase III application is in the works to take full advantage of the available funds. Council Member Rogers encouraged everyone to attend the 5th Annual Home Tour and to visit www.chinohills.org/HomeTour for more information and to purchase tickets. Marquez:
Council Member Marquez thanked the Public Works Department and the Engineering Department for their quick response to issues within the City and for keeping the public notified of events and incidents. Upon questioning, City Engineer Nix noted that infrastructure for recycled water service for an individual facility is not cost effective. Council Member Marquez noted that he attended the City County Conference, Donate Life Flag Raising, Salute to Safety Luncheon, and Easter Eggcitement events.
Bennett:
Vice Mayor Bennett noted that trees have been removed in the medians of Chino Hills Parkway. He confirmed that the relocated fence at the Equestrian Center on Peyton Drive is the permanent location for that fencing. Vice Mayor Bennett encouraged everyone to purchase tickets for the 5th Annual Home Tour. He reported that the Volunteer Recognition Dinner will be held on April 16th and thanked the City’s many volunteers for all their work. Vice Mayor Bennett congratulated the Ayala High School Vocal Ensemble for their first place wins over the Spring Break holiday and the Chino Hills High School Drumline for being named the 2015 WGI Scholastic World Champions.
Graham:
Council member Graham asked for an update regarding water conservation in the City. Public Works Director Majaj noted that the City is working to meet the 25 percent water reduction requirements set by the State of California and will be revising the City’s Water Conservation Ordinance and requesting the declaration of a Stage III Water Alert. He noted that the City will be pursuing grants, educational opportunities, and working with businesses to institute water conservation measures.
Moran:
Mayor Moran noted that water conservation and turf replacement rebates are available for residential communities and encouraged communities to investigate these rebates. She asked that outreach to businesses be done to further encourage water conservation efforts. She congratulated Chino Hills High School junior Lonzo Ball for being named the 2015 Daily Bulletin Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
