PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER REPORT
Public Information Officer (PIO) Cattern announced that a Household Hazardous Waste Roundup will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Founders Recreation Center. She noted that this event is for Chino Hills residents only and only household hazardous wastes will be accepted. For more information on what items are acceptable and those that will not be allowed please call (909) 364-2633.
PIO Cattern provided an update on the Peyton Drive construction. She cautioned motorists to avoid the area when possible and to check real time conditions by visiting the City's website at www.chinohills.org/PeytonConstruction or the OxBlue smartphone app.
PIO Cattern reminded everyone that Southern California Edison will be trenching across Chino Hills Parkway, south of Eucalyptus Avenue, adjacent to Veterans Park as part of the project to underground the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project. She reported that work will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and one lane of travel will be maintained in each direction. PIO Cattern noted that the majority of the work will occur in the northbound lanes over the next six weeks and following a brief curing period, will commence in the southbound lanes for an additional six weeks. Captain Guillen, Chino Hills Police Department, reported that May 10 through 16, 2015 is National Police Week 2015. He noted that the recognition honors the service and sacrifice of law enforcement personnel. Captain Guillen thanked the community for their continued support of the Department.
COUNCIL REPORTS
1. Healthy Cities Steering Committee – Mayor Moran reported that the Committee will be attending Concerts in the Park, under the Healthy Cities branding, to promote and bring awareness to the program in the City. She noted that Shilpa Thakar, Randall Lewis Health Policy Fellow, provided a report to the Committee on the Healthy Cities program and how it compared to similar programs in the region.

2. Omnitrans – Council Member Graham reported that an approximate three mile pipeline is being built from an LNG facility to Omnitrans to remove the need for LNG storage tanks.
3. Sanbag – Council Member Graham reported that a million dollar budget increase, as a result of the HERO program, has allowed for the hiring of additional staff members to run a pilot council of governments function.
4. Southern California Association of Governments – Council Member Marquez reported that the Regional Conference and General Assembly was held on May 7th. He reported that an open house will be held at the Ontario Senior Center on May 28th for public comment regarding issues such as traffic.
5. Chino Hills Community Foundation – Council Member Rogers reported that Board of Directors elections were held at the annual meeting on May 11th. He noted that the Home Tour raised $29,000.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Rogers:
Council Member Rogers congratulated the Let it Be Foundation on a successful 5K+ Walk/Run event. He noted that there were 2,200 registers participants and 350 volunteers. Council Member Rogers reported that SafeWise ranked the City of Chino Hills 32nd safest City in California for populations of 10,000 or more and thanked the Chino Hills Police Department personnel for their efforts in keeping the City safe.
Marquez:
Council Member Marquez noted that he attended the California League of Cities and the Planes of Fame event at the Chino airport. He reported that the euthanasia rate has significantly reduced from 15 to 18 per month to one in the month of March.
Bennett:
Vice Mayor Bennett noted that the Day of Prayer event was well attended and was a nice event. He wished the junior and senior high school students a fun and safe prom season.
Graham:
Council Member Grahamreminded everyone that the Budget Workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 26th at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
Moran:
Mayor Moran acknowledged the high school students and members of the Chino Valley Fire District in attendance at the City Council meeting. She noted that local news stations covered the visit of San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon and members of the Chino Hills Police Department to the students of Mrs. Rosen at Canyon Hills Junior High School in appreciation of the letters the students wrote to recognize and thank the Chino Hills Police Department for service to the community.
